To complete the Gratitude Pagoda and to maximise the use of this historical monument, we need to construct the cloisters, pavilions and walkways around the Gratitude Pagoda |
| |
| CLOISTERS |
The two cloisters will be called METTA (loving kindness) and KARUNA (compassion)
METTA CLOISTER in the northern direction will welcome all people who step into the Gratitude Pagoda.
KARUNA CLOISTER in the southern direction will be used as a quiet location for meditation and reflection.
It will also be used as a temporary library and Buddhist exhibition space.
METTA and KARUNA CLOISTERS will give shelter and protection for people to practise both walking and sitting meditation in the extreme climate of Bundanoon. |
| |
PAVILIONS |
The two pavilions in the east direction will be called MUDITA (joy) and UPEKKHA (equanimity).
MUDITA and UPEKKHA PAVILIONS will be included in the Uposatha boundary, the special consecrated area, which will provide for higher ordination. They will also be used for chanting and sitting meditation. |
| |
MEDITATION PATHWAY |
The meditation pathway that links the cloisters and the pavilions will be called the BODHIPAKKHIYA-
DHAMMA PATHWAY and will be divided into 37 parts representing the 37 Factors of Enlightenment. |
| |
BODHISATTVA WALL |
The boundary wall on the west side of the Gratitude Pagoda, near the Kuan Yin Pond, will be called the
BODHISATTVA or TASSA PARAMI WALL and will be divided into 10 parts representing the 10 perfections to achieve Buddhahood. Each of the 10 sections will have a sandstone carving depicting one Bodhisattva life showing the 10 different perfections or paramis. |
